On Regeneration and Purposeful Work

On Regeneration and Purposeful Work

Dear friends,

Here in the Inland PNW, fall usually means rain. I tucked my rose garden under waste mohair and compost right before Thanksgiving.

Over Black Friday, I found ten peony roots I’ve long wanted, perfect companions for the roses.

Then a foot of snow arrived. But in typical Inland PNW fashion, the ground never froze, the snow vanished, the clouds moved on, and today I’m outside planting peonies.

When we bought this place seven years ago, the soil had been worked hard for decades as an alfalfa field. Overused, over sprayed, and stripped of organic matter.

One of my deepest goals as a steward of this land is to help restore what was lost. That’s where the regenerative beauty of raising goats comes in. The waste mohair and the winter straw mixed with manure all become rich compost that feeds the earth and slowly brings life back to the soil.

So today, as I tuck new peony roots into the rose garden, I’m reminded that regeneration takes time, care, and consistency - whether it’s rebuilding soil or building a small brand like Caprine.

Both grow stronger when nothing is wasted, everything has purpose, and you trust the quiet work happening beneath the surface.

As you make your wish lists and choose gifts with meaning, I hope Caprine can be part of your mindful choices this season. Our socks and throws begin with the land, the goats, and the steady work of regeneration.

I’m grateful each time you choose with purpose and intention and support our small business and ranch.
