In 2021 a Cancer Diagnosis and a Dream Collided...

Dear friends,

This past weekend, we had a videoshoot with a well-known interior design firm featuring our natural-color mohair throws. Her vision blends nature and relationships into a way of living that feels grounded, intentional, and deeply connected. That’s exactly what Caprine is about.

Caprine is simply me and my two daughters, Rachel and Sarah, living and working together on the family ranch. We are deeply connected to our goats and grounded in the land. We strive to live in harmony with all.

The idea for Caprine began in 2019. At the time, I had more mohair than I could ever use. One day, I saw a post for a USDA workshop on grants for farm-raised products. That was the spark: What if I turned our mohair into socks and throws? Everyone wears socks. Everyone loves a blanket.

I spent two years writing the grant - over 250 pages of planning, research, and details. I submitted it in May 2021. Just a few months later, I received two life-changing calls. The first told me I had grade 3a breast cancer. The second told me I had been awarded the grant.

A diagnosis and a dream collided, but I chose to believe. I believed I could beat cancer, and I believed in Caprine. Through chemotherapy, I built the brand: developing yarn on zoom calls, answering emails in the infusion chair, and making decisions that would define our future.

Rachel and Sarah came home from university every weekend to help with chores, care for the goats, and build the brand. Their strength, dedication, and belief in Caprine gave me the energy to keep going, even on the hardest days.

They graduated in May 2023, backpacked through Europe, and then returned to the family ranch. Together, we’ve built Caprine from the ground up. We believe in our goats, our mohair, and our socks and throws.

Caprine is not only our family, it’s yours too. You believe in us, wear our socks, and snuggle up in our throws. You’ve become part of this journey and the Caprine family. Together, we’ve proven that even the smallest engine can - and did - create something lasting and beautiful.

That’s why each pair of socks and every throw carries more than cozy softness. They carry relationships between a mother, her daughters, and their goats; and between your home and the natural, intentional products you choose to surround yourself with. They carry the belief that perseverance and faith in a dream can make it real. And they carry the spirit of The Little Engine That Could, reminding us to always believe, “I think I can.”

When you choose Caprine, you’re not just keeping your feet happy or wrapping up in a throw, you’re becoming part of this “I think I can” story too.
