From Ranch to Yarn: The Start and End of Our Supply Chain
Our journey begins in the picturesque panhandle of Idaho, where we raise angora goats for their prized mohair fiber. Twice a year, in spring and fall, we shear our goats' mohair. Our ranch is both the beginning and end of our supply chain.
Sorting and Skirting
After shearing, the mohair is meticulously sorted by color and micron count, ensuring the utmost softness. It's then skirted to remove any unwanted debris, setting the stage for further processing.
Processing Partners
Next, the sorted mohair embarks on a journey through our trusted supply chain partners. At the scouring plant, it undergoes a thorough cleaning process before being blended with 21-micron domestic merino wool for bounce and memory.
Spinning and Dyeing
The blended fiber then travels to the spinning mill, where it's expertly spun into yarn. The dyed colors, handpicked by myself (Sarah) and my mom (Angela), transforms the yarn, where it's dyed into an array of beautiful colors. We also reserve a portion of the yarn for our natural-colored socks.
Knitting Magic
As the journey nears its end, the spun and dyed yarn arrives at the knitting mill, where it's skillfully crafted into our signature sock styles, including striped socks and cable knit socks.
Return to the Ranch
Finally, after a 9-month journey from fiber to finished sock, our luxurious mohair socks make their way back to our ranch in Idaho. Here, our dedicated team of shepherds—Angela, Rachel, and Sarah (me, again!)—carefully package each sock, preparing them to embark on their next adventure to homes all across the country.
